A graduate of M.I.T. and a protege of Nikola Tesla; Dr. Fitzgerald was once known as a brilliant up and coming scientist. He studied mainly wave theory, and its applications to new technologies including radio and early research into broadcasting television in color. The more interested Barry became in the work of Dr. Tesla the more he was convinced it could be used to prove the existence of the afterlife.

Specifically Teslas theories on wireless power, both the transmission of, as well as the reception of electricity. Barry theorized that ghosts subsisted on the electric energy present in our atmosphere, and that by manipulating that energy they could be contacted, and meaningful communication could be established with the world beyond. Further he stumbled upon evidence that such a system was in place during the time of the ancient Atlanteans.

He was considered to be discredited through most of the scientific community, much like his predecessor. Where Tesla was shamed by his exile Barry embraced it. Freed from the shackles of the scientific method he began to explore more and more obscure sources to prove his theories.
